How can I become a good Hip Hop dancer?
I went to a Hip Hop Dance class and it wasn’t that great and I didn’t learn anything from there, I am going to purchase some Hip Hop dance DVDs to help me learn the basics and gain confidence but I would really like to go to a class but I cant find any around my area which is Croydon which is in Surrey. If you know of any Hip Hop Dance classes can you please include them in your message as well please because I would really appreciate that. I really really want to learn and become really good. What else do you think I can do to get better and learn more quickly because my goal is to become a professional dancer and I would love to dance for famous people because that would be my ultimate dream because dancing is more like my my dream instead of a hobby. Can you please help me. Thanks ;D
I live in Croydon which is in Surrey. I already mentioned it in my 1st explanation but Sean didn’t see it. So can everyone still give me names of places close to Croydon where I live please. I also live not that far from Bromley which is in Kent as well so if anyone knows of any classes there also can you include it in you answer as well please. I would really appreciate all the information. Thank-you ;D
I’m 19 years old and only had 1 dance lesson which was rubbish because the Dance Teacher rushed through the choreography and the class was mixed with beginners and really advanced dancers as well so I’m not going back any more but I would just would like advice and your opinions on how I can do well and hopefully make it big. Thank-you for all the answers I already received and following ones I am going to receive so I’m thanking you all in advance. ;D
First of all before I answer your question… Sean…James Brown and M.J had nothing to do with break dancing. I’ve been taking caperioa for a couple of months. And can tell you that break dancing comes the afro-brazlian sport of caperioa..look it up!..Don’t get me wrong they were both amazing performers. But hell no I wouldn’t give them that much credit for hip hop dancing. M.J took the moonwalk from other performers such as french mime Marcel Marceau. But anywayz…
With a question like this I have no idea what place your talking about. I’m from the U.S, but how old are you? where are you from? Some dance places have age limits esp for adults. If your talking about England I found this website in Surrey, its called dance mode school of dance.. http://satoribroadcasting.com/dancemode/page1.php#surrey
theres also this website which gives you links to different dance studios.http://www.hotfroguk.co.uk/Products/dance-classes
i didn’t go into depth with these websites so hopefully it can be a start on finding something.
I’m 22 and I had my first hip hop class ever today. And I feel defeated and like s..h..i..t. to say the least. I couldnt keep up, but then it again it was my first day, and the other people had been learning for weeks. Hip Hop is part rhythm, attitude, and confidence. How many hours are you willing to take out the week to dance? How many hours are you willing to put into working out? It’s your determination and love for dance that will keep you going. the rest will fall in place eventually. .
I would suggest you don’t rely on Hip Hop DvDs. B/C I think people in a dance studio could critique you better, esp if you are a beginner. I hope you will be able to find something and keep dancing. B/c I feel the same way you do. Don’t give up…

1. Get your body in shape because dancing is physically demanding.
2. Study the past performers, Micheal Jackson, James Brown. Their moves were the foundation for hip hop dancing. Break dancing as well.
3. Find friends that will help push you, dancing won’t be easy all by yourself.
4. You didn’t mention what area your in but try to find a variety of dance classes in your area to take from jazz to ballet to salsa…. the more styles the better. these will round out your skills and allow you to add an extra element to your freestyles that other dancers won’t have, trust me the more experience the better.
5. Find a good dance company with good leadership, I know for a fact that some company’s aren’t always fair to everybody but use the company to improve your technical skills & abilities
6. Work ethic, you have to want….dance everyday, everywhere you go because that passion is what will seperate you from the other dancers.

Watch Hip hop music videos that have backup dancers and watch and learn the way they move. Also dance freestyle to hip hop however you want. Keep on going to your classes they might help you alot. E.g. Ciara – Get up has great hip hop dance moves and Sean paul – tempreture has a mix of reggae and hip hop
